Celebrating Women in Business

On Wednesday, March 8th, we celebrate International Women’s Day. A day not owned by any country or organization, it’s a collaboration of efforts. The United Nations describes it as a day to recognize achievements, reflect on progress made, support women’s rights, call for change, and to celebrate acts of courage.

I’ve been fortunate to work with and for many women who have started their own businesses. I reached out to some of those friends and colleagues to see what achievements they’re celebrating, what advice they would give women entrepreneurs, and where they celebrate acts of courage.

Christy Payne, owner, and designer of CLPjewelry.com, is celebrating her 20th year in business in 2023. A jewelry designer who has turned her business not only into a successful e-commerce site but also two brick and mortars in Denver, CO. The stores sell CLP jewelry, and also unique, one-of-a-kind items Christy finds on her national and worldly travels.

Lynn Stone and Mandy Gregory of www.huntercarson.com create luxury homes with a focus on function, fun, and family-friendly design. They were featured in South Bay Magazine, Sunset, and Dwell & Rue magazines just to name a few. Their proudest moment was designing a Manhattan Beach home in 2022 that Better Homes and Garden featured for trends to watch in 2023.

Heidi Chianti started YourProjectMgr.com in 2005 with the premise of “Getting it started and getting it done.” Since then Heidi and her team have been organizing and assisting clients from the Los Angeles South Bay to Beverly Hills and beyond. Heidi’s advice for women wanting to start their own business is,  “Share your dreams and ideas with family, friends, and colleagues. At the end of the day, women want to help other women succeed. If a friend lights up and recommends you talk to someone doing the same thing or someone that has nothing in common with you…Make the connection. Do not hesitate or overthink it. Networking and collaboration with others will spur creativity, help shape your ideas and broaden your outlook.”

Jean Freeman, Principal and CEO at zmbz.com, NAWBO Business Owner of the Year 2022, and Adweek Trailblazer 2022, along with Christy Hiler have created “Own It”, a platform founded to increase the number of agencies owned by women. They will be having their first virtual event on March 15th, with moderator Olivia Morley of Adweek. You can register for this free event, “The Path to More Women-Owned Agencies” here, https://lnkd.in/gnWrDcm

Haleh Shoa, Founder, and CEO of Picturili.com, came to the US with her family in 1979, when they were uprooted by the Iranian revolution. She stands with the women of Iran, along with Time Magazine’s cover honoring the “Heroes of the Year, Fighting for Freedom, The Women of Iran.” Haleh says it poignantly, “Woman. Life. Freedom.”
